Peace on a Plate: een brunch in samenwerking met Flatons

Tijdens Out in the Streets bouwen we de Arenbergstraat om tot één lange tafel voor 100 mensen. Voor deze bijzondere brunch slaan we de handen in elkaar met Flatons en chefs Sandip Patel en Faeiq Al-Mamoori. Met Peace on a Plate brengen ze hun Indiase en Iraakse roots samen in een menu om te delen.

Waar India en Irak elkaar ontmoeten

Flatons werd opgericht door Sandip Patel, met roots in India, en Faeiq Al-Mamoori, afkomstig uit Irak. Vanuit hun verschillende achtergronden creëren ze in Antwerpen een plek waar smaken, culturen en verhalen elkaar ontmoeten. Indiase kruiden gaan er in dialoog met de warmte en gelaagdheid van de Iraakse keuken, van uitgesproken streetfood tot verfijnde fine dining.

Maar Flatons is meer dan een restaurant. Het is een levend platform op het kruispunt van food, kunst en cultuur, waar tentoonstellingen, gesprekken en performances een plek krijgen en onverwachte samenwerkingen met nationale en internationale kunstenaars en makers kunnen ontstaan.

Die culturele ambitie gaat hand in hand met een sociale missie. Flatons wil kansen creëren voor mensen met een vluchtachtergrond en hen de ruimte geven om ervaring en vaardigheden op te bouwen en hun eigen ondernemerschap en toekomst vorm te geven.

Peace on a Plate

Met Peace on a Plate vertrekken Sandip en Faeiq vanuit een eenvoudige maar urgente gedachte: kan eten samenbrengen wat elders tegenover elkaar komt te staan?

In hun fine-diningconcept brengen ze smaken en culinaire tradities uit landen en regio’s die getekend zijn door conflict samen aan één tafel. Niet om verschillen uit te wissen, maar om ruimte te maken voor ontmoeting. Recepten, herinneringen en smaken van thuis komen samen op het bord en vertellen er een nieuw, gedeeld verhaal.

Voor Out in the Streets brengen Sandip en Faeiq die filosofie naar de Arenbergstraat met een Indiaas-Iraakse brunch. Geen klassieke restaurantsetting, maar één lange tafel midden op straat, met plaats voor 100 mensen. Kom alleen, met je buren, vrienden of familie. Schuif aan, geef de gerechten door en start samen met ons de dag met een heerlijke brunch.

En daarna? Dan schuiven we de stoelen aan de kant en is het tijd voor het verdere programma van Out in the Streets. Samen met onze buren en partners transformeren we de Arenbergstraat en de theaterbuurt tot één wonderbaarlijk feest, waar tussen elk kraampje, in elk café en onder elke straatsteen geperformd, gedanst, gegeten, gepraat, gelachen, geworkshopt en geweend mag worden.

Peace on a Plate: a brunch in collaboration with Flatons

During Out in the Streets, we’re transforming Arenbergstraat into one long table for 100 people. For this special brunch, we’re joining forces with Flatons and chefs Sandip Patel and Faeiq Al-Mamoori. With Peace on a Plate, they bring together their Indian and Iraqi roots in a menu made for sharing.

Where India and Iraq meet

Flatons was founded by Sandip Patel, who has roots in India, and Faeiq Al-Mamoori, originally from Iraq. Drawing on their different backgrounds, they have created a place in Antwerp where flavours, cultures and stories come together. Indian spices enter into dialogue with the warmth and depth of Iraqi cuisine, from bold street food to refined fine dining.

But Flatons is more than a restaurant. It is a living platform at the intersection of food, art and culture, creating space for exhibitions, conversations and performances, as well as unexpected collaborations with artists and makers from Belgium and abroad.

This cultural ambition goes hand in hand with a social mission. Flatons aims to create opportunities for people with refugee backgrounds, offering them the space to gain experience, develop skills and shape their own entrepreneurial paths and futures.

Peace on a Plate

With Peace on a Plate, Sandip and Faeiq start from a simple yet urgent question: can food bring together what is divided elsewhere?

In their fine-dining concept, they bring flavours and culinary traditions from countries and regions marked by conflict together around one table. Not to erase differences, but to create space for connection. Recipes, memories and flavours of home meet on the plate, where they tell a new, shared story.

For Out in the Streets, Sandip and Faeiq bring this philosophy to Arenbergstraat with an Indian-Iraqi brunch. No traditional restaurant setting, but one long table in the middle of the street, with room for 100 people. Come on your own, with your neighbours, friends or family. Pull up a chair, pass the dishes around and start the day with us over a delicious brunch.

And afterwards? We’ll push back the chairs and make way for the rest of the Out in the Streets programme. Together with our neighbours and partners, we’ll transform Arenbergstraat and the theatre district into one wonderfully vibrant celebration, where between every stall, inside every café and beneath every paving stone, there’s room to perform, dance, eat, talk, laugh, learn, create and even shed a tear.
